MEDIUM DUTY · ISOKON COMPOSITE GROUND PROTECTION

TM50. Assessed vehicle access, compounds and event traffic.

Vehicle routes, festival traffic, compounds and temporary car parks need the right mat for the ground beneath them. TM50 is our Isokon ISOtrack L medium-duty composite mat for assessed wheeled traffic and pedestrian routes. We check the ground, load footprint, traffic and duration, then propose, deliver and install the right system.

WHERE IT FITS

What the TM50 is built for. And when to step up.

TM50 covers a useful middle ground between pedestrian matting and heavy-duty trackway. The actual ground, vehicle contact area, turning, traffic frequency and duration still decide whether it is the right class.

Use it for

Strong medium-duty applications.

  • Assessed car, van and lighter wheeled-vehicle routes.
  • Festival build, show and strike traffic where conditions are suitable.
  • Temporary car parks and overflow parking after a ground and traffic review.
  • Compounds, welfare and laydown areas with controlled vehicle movements.
  • Pedestrian routes alongside vehicle access.
  • Landscape and estate access where load and route conditions suit TM50.
  • Repeat temporary access programmes with planned fleet rotation.
Check or step up

Conditions that can require TM120 or TM200.

  • Steel-tracked plant, aggressive turning or concentrated loading.
  • Heavy or sustained plant traffic on soft, saturated or disturbed ground.
  • Crane access, lifting operations or outrigger support.
  • Deep ruts, voids or any route that requires bridging rather than load spreading.
  • Poor sub-bases or permanent hardstanding applications without a project review.
  • Any selection based on gross vehicle weight alone.

The manufacturer gives ground-dependent guidance, not a universal vehicle approval. TrackMatz confirms the class from the complete project conditions.

CONNECTION SYSTEM

Connected for the agreed layout.

Two-way and four-way joiners connect the mats into straight runs, corners and compound layouts. Connector quantities are matched to the quoted design and reconciled at off-hire.

TM50 two-way connector for edge-to-edge joining
2-WAY CONNECTORS

Edge-to-edge joining for straight vehicle routes and compound perimeters.

TM50 four-way connector for grid layouts
4-WAY CONNECTORS

Four-mat corner joining for compounds, car parks and wider layouts.

LAYOUT-MATCHED KIT

The connector mix follows the design.

The agreed connector kit travels with the mats. Lost or damaged items are handled under the quoted hire terms.

Hand-laid by a two-person crew, with mechanical assistance available for unloading and larger layouts.

RECENT TM50 INSTALLATION

200m event roadway. Installed and controlled.

TrackMatz installed 167 TM50 Isokon mats with 334 bolt-fixed joiners to form a 200m × 2.4m vehicle route across grass. A signed 5 mph limit and keep-to-route instructions were installed with it.

Installation

Laid by a two-person crew. At 36 kg per mat, TM50 can be hand-laid. A forklift or telehandler can assist with pallet unloading and larger layouts. TrackMatz installation or a planned self-collection can be quoted to suit the project.

STRAIGHT TALK · MANUFACTURER GUIDANCE VS PROJECT APPROVAL

How to read the load guidance.

Isokon states up to 20 tonnes for lighter vehicles and equipment on softer ground, and more than 50 tonnes on firm ground. The manufacturer also states that all load-bearing capacity depends on ground conditions.

Those figures do not automatically approve a vehicle or route. Ground bearing, wheel or track contact area, traffic frequency, turning, braking and duration can require a higher class.

Softer-ground guidance

Up to 20 tonnes.

  • For lighter vehicles and equipment
  • Subject to the actual ground
  • Not universal vehicle approval
  • Project conditions still checked
Firm-ground guidance

More than 50 tonnes.

  • Published Isokon guidance
  • Firm ground required
  • Contact area and traffic still matter
  • TrackMatz confirms the product class

The manufacturer figure is one input. The project conditions decide the mat class.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What clients actually ask us about TM50 hire.

Can the TM50 take a 20 tonne excavator?
It is not a default TM50 approval. A 20-tonne excavator brings concentrated track loading, turning forces and repeated traffic. We would assess the ground and application against TM120 or TM200 before approving a route. Gross vehicle weight alone is not enough to select the mat.
Are connectors really included as standard?
The connector mix is matched to the agreed layout. Two-way and four-way connectors are calculated from the mat quantity and design. The proposal and hire terms show what is included, with lost or damaged items reconciled at off-hire.
How quickly can you mobilise on UK mainland?
24-hour mobilisation can be offered on many UK mainland projects. Timing is subject to stock, route, quantity and installation requirements. Out-of-hours and weekend mobilisation is available by arrangement.
What's the minimum hire?
Minimums depend on distance, quantity, duration and whether collection or installation is required. Send the site postcode, dates and area and we will confirm the most practical hire option.
What about wear and tear?
Fair wear and tear is built into the rate. Surface profiling and edge wear is normal. That's what the mats are for. Anything beyond that is covered by the hire terms you'll see before sign off. No surprises mid hire. Connector reconciliation happens at off hire, not mid project.
Can I see them on a project before I commit?
Photos usually do. Send us shots of the ground and the access route, we'll spec the class from those in most cases. On-site survey is on request for larger or more complex projects, with a written spec pack. If TM50 isn't right, we'll tell you that. Saves you the call back later.
Not sure which class is right for the project?
Use the TrackSpec Tool™ for a 60 second indicative recommendation, or pick the phone up and brief us. The tool gets you a starting point. The phone gets you a spec.
