GROUND PROTECTION DECISION
Protection starts with the ground. Not a product headline.
A mat can spread load and reduce surface disturbance when it is properly selected and managed. It cannot make weak ground strong, remove every risk of marking or damage, or turn supplier test data into automatic site permission. Gross weight is only a starting point. Wheel, axle or track footprint and any concentrated loads can change the answer materially.

SURFACES AND RISKS
Protect what matters. Understand what can change.
Ground protection hire is not limited to muddy fields. Whether the brief says ground mats hire or composite ground mats hire, the planning question changes with the finish, the support beneath it and what must cross or work on the area.
Grass and verges
Review moisture, soft layers, drainage, rutting, compaction, turning and recovery expectations across the full hire.
Paving and tarmac
Check point loading, trapped debris, heat, turning, surface finish, edges and transitions before choosing the system.
Root zones and sensitive ground
Respect arboricultural, ecological, heritage and site-specific controls. Specialist requirements may sit outside the matting decision.
Compounds and public realm
Coordinate working zones, pedestrian interfaces, drainage, levels, slopes, access restrictions and the removal sequence.
The aim is proportionate risk reduction with clear assumptions and controls. Ground protection mats do not guarantee no damage or no reinstatement.

Pedestrian-first
For pedestrian routes and event access. Occasional cars require ground and traffic assessment. Vans, commercial vehicles and plant normally require a higher class.

THE CONNECTION IS PART OF THE PLAN
Overlapping flanges. Quarter-turn MDX locks.
TM200 MegaDeck HD+ mats connect through overlapping flanges secured with MDX pins. A T-bar tool turns each pin through 90° to engage the lock; the indicator line should sit perpendicular to the slot.
Pin positions and quantities depend on the confirmed layout, ground strength (CBR), loads, traffic frequency and project duration. Clean connections, correct engagement and inspection form part of the installation plan.
